Valorant cheat developers sued by Riot, Bungie for financial damages

Cheat distribution website GatorCheats is being sued by developers behind Valorant and Destiny 2 for millions in damages

For many years now, game developers have been pained with the rising cases of cheating in online games and this has been a major cause of concern, which is yet to be fully rectified in order to keep the integrity of gaming alive.

Hampering gamer experience

It was due to the same persistent issues that Riot Games had proclaimed a state-of-art and full-proof anti-cheat mechanism for their global hit Valorant. However, cheat developers apparently have found a way to circumvent the firewalls set up to prevent cheating, thereby becoming a lingering concern for Riot Games.

Riot has teamed up with Bungie to take actions against one such cheat distribution website – GatorCheats that provides players with cheats for Valorant and Destiny 2 for a price ranging from $90 per month to $500 for a lifetime subscription. Riot and Bungie raised a complaint in the court of California claiming that the damages caused by GatorCheats may result in millions of dollars’ worth of damages.

Sharing his views on this debacle, a Riot spokesperson, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “Cheating undermines a game’s competitive integrity and erodes community trust. Riot is wholly committed to upholding these values for its players, so when we become aware of a cheat maker, you bet we’re going to go after them.”

A persistent cause of concern

This isn’t the first time that GatorCheats has come under scanner from game developer Bungie. This company behind the successful Destiny 2 had previously issued a cease and desists to GatorCheats following which it was compelled to shut down its website but continued supporting the cheating system for those who had already made purchases. Internal experts are also of the opinion that the chest developers are continuing to distribute their hacks through other platforms.

Valorant on its part has also seen fervent player complaints of cheaters plaguing the online game scene, especially in ranked matches. The game-playing experience has seen a gradual worsening over the past few years and leading names like Valorant cannot afford to lose player confidence as a result of frequent cheat actions. Hence, the current dramatic move seems justified.
