ASUS to Launch ROG Esports Academy to boost Indian esports talent

ASUS ROG esports academy will start with training players in CS:GO and move to other games with time

In a bid to encourage young gamers across the country, Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the launch of the Asus ROG Academy in India.

It is touted as India’s first virtual academy programme for rising stars in the country’s gaming horizon. This Esports competitive training platform aims to create professionals out of enthusiasts.

Aim of the ASUS ROG Venture

Through the programme, Asus ROG plans to screen gamers and provide the chosen ones with the requisite equipment, coaching and a stipend. This is to get them up and ready for competitive Esport tournaments on a national and global level.

Commenting on the development, Arnold Su, Business Head, Asus India, mentioned that the perception of gaming among both gamers and parents is changing. Given favourable policies make their way, Esports may soon be part of grander events like the Olympics in the future.

Games in the ASUS ROG initiative

The hardware brand intends to commence training with CS:GO at the initial quarterly stage. While not only is this game popular, but has been a fan-favourite for over two decades, making it the unanimous choice to begin with. However, the brand is planning to eventually look at other titles as well.

Asus ROG academy functionality

Asus ROG plans to launch a one year programme, comprising four quarterly sessions. Shortlisted players and teams will have to pass through multiple rounds of selection and six selected individuals will become part of a 3-month long session for the first quarter.

Representatives from Asus ROG, its various partners and CS:GO would be supervising the process. Various tailor-made challenges would be curated to test individual skillsets of players and specific competitions.

The programme will include activities ranging from theory and individual skill training to coach mentorship and training on elements like teamwork. Players will also be trained on higher-level concepts and strategies used in competitive gaming.

The training curriculum will be five days a week, twice a day with one session in the morning and one in the evening. Also, the lessons and training will be based on elements picked up from some of the best competitive teams in Southeast Asia and across the world.

Takeaways from the ASUS ROG initiative

As an incentive to take esports prospects forward, Asus ROG will reward the final team of six players with an Ex-Gratia amount of Rs 1,00,000. Also, based on their training period, players will receive a stipend of Rs 15,000 on a monthly basis.

The selected six players will also be representing Asus ROG for an additional three months for taking part in any forthcoming tournaments or events.

How to apply for ASUS ROG programme

Registrations for the ROG Academy programme have started from 1st February 2021 and will continue till 10th of the month. Interested individuals will need to be at least 16 years of age to apply for the programme.

Those aged between 16 and 18 will also need to provide a consent letter from their parents to participate in the programme. The screening process will be held soon after the conclusion of the registration phase.
