The Federation of Electronic Sports Associations of India (FEAI) met with Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hon’ble Minister of State Electronics & Information Technology, and submitted its Policy Paper for esports. The apex national body for Esports in India was invited by MEITY to release a policy paper as a framework for the development of esports in India to accelerate the Government of India’s recent AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) masterplan.
The policy paper that FEAI just submitted will broadly look into the ways to develop a framework to build the rapid, robust and transparent esports ecosystem in India. FEAI drafted the policy paper after consulting and interacting with every stakeholder.
As per the FEAI sources, the policy paper recommends introducing a policy-centered esports outlook that takes into consideration India’s unique esports needs. The paper insists on promoting India’s indigenous talent along with welcoming a conventional global esports outlook.
The report also asserts to take immediate initiatives to create a robust talent development ecosystem for ESports that covers talent hunt, businesses, job creation, education, and revenue generation for India.
In reply to a question asked, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, commented:
“The government is keenly observing the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship associated with esports. The rapid expansion of the mobile ecosystem and internet in India will further accelerate the adoption of esports and we will be providing the necessary policy level support to ensure that the esports industry grows and contributes to the development of the nation while Indian players win laurels for the country in esports.”
To recall, GoI recently announced the AVGC promotion task force to explore ways to realize growth and build domestic capacity for serving domestic markets and the global demands. The policy paper of FEAI will strengthen the Government of India’s recent push for AVGC Mandate.
The move seems significant as Esports is set to be a medal sport in the Asian Games 2022. Moreover, it will also be played as an exhibition event during the Commonwealth Games 2022. Once the International Olympic Committee chalks out the format, Esports could be soon inducted into the Olympics.
Indian Esports industry is growing by leap and bounds. As per the latest numbers, there are over 1.7 million esports users presently in India, and some of these are professional athletes who have won international titles and brought glory to the country.
FEAI is the apex national body for Esports in India. The body is responsible for creating opportunities at the grassroots and building a transparent Esports ecosystem. FEAI works with a mission to create an inclusive, safe, healthy, and sustainable Esports ecosystem.
The primary focus of the regulator is to ensure responsible gaming, fair play, education, and career pathways for athletes. To cultivate the Esports culture at scale, FEAI looks at the possibilities to host tournaments at colleges, universities, and districts.
