Reliance Jio, MediaTek announce online gaming tournament

Reliance Jio & MediaTek announce a 70-day online gaming tournament with a prize money of Rs 12.5 lakh

Reliance Jio and chipset maker MediaTek have announced their plans to host a new gaming tournament in India called ‘Gaming Masters’ and the tournament is open to Jio and non-Jio users. It will be broadcast live on JioTV HD Esports Channel and YouTube. The tournament will feature Garena Free Fire, which is available to Jio and non-Jio users via the JioGames platform.

A grassroots virtual gaming tournament

Reliance Jio has said that the Gaming Masters is a mass market initiative by MediaTek and Jio that is touted to revolutionize the online gaming experience. The tournament will be a test for the gamer’s skill, his teamwork and endurance abilities in a virtual gaming platform.

Reliance Jio seems to have been encouraged by the success of their recently concluded gaming event: ‘India ka Gaming Champion.’, which was the company’s first attempt at online gaming, post which, Gaming Masters has been announced.

A cross-platform gaming experience

‘Gaming Masters’ will feature Garena’s indigenously developed famous battle royale title, Free Fire, which is being made available to both Jio and non-Jio users through the JioGames platform. The tournament will be held in two stages.

Stage one is for Duos matches, while Stage two is for Solo matches. Both stages will feature two rounds of qualifiers, followed by a playoff to determine the finalists. The grand finale will see the usage of all three maps, namely Bermuda, Kalahari and Purgatory.

Registration & prize pool

Registrations for this 70-day long tournament have started and will be conducted between January 13 and March 7, 2021. Interested players must note that there is no registration or participation fee for the Gaming Masters tournament.

The winners will take home a prize money of Rs 12,50,000. The winners of each of the finales stand to win Rs 3,00,000 each. Prizes will also be awarded to those who finish second, third and fourth. On top of this, daily prizes will also be awarded to winners and the runners-up during the qualifier stage.
