The Skydome device comes to Fortnite in patch v17.30 update

The Skydome device has arrived in Fortnite, which allows players to customize the sky on their island, along with all celestial elements

Epic Games has introduced the Skydome device to Fortnite in patch v17.30. The Skydome device provides players the ability to illuminate the island according to their preference.

Fortnite gets the Skydome device

Essentially, the Skydome device controls how the sky looks. Gamers get to explore options for changing the sun, clouds, stars or other objects in the sky above their island.

They can experiment with the sun and moon, and add other atmospheric elements like stars, fog and clouds. Also, they can change the colour of their light source, and blend different colours for the island’s sky to create a customised atmosphere.

How does the Skydome device work

This device allows Creators to override the default sky box for an island. The arrows on the device show the direction of light casting. This results in the Sun appearing directly opposite from the direction the arrows are pointing.

If the arrows are pointing up, the Sun or moon will be hidden beneath the island. This also allows the light source to be placed outside of the normal East-West path that the default island light source is restricted to.

If multiple Skydomes are active, the most recently activated one will take control. This device also features the new Color Picker UI element to make selecting colors easier than with some older devices.

Skydome in Fortnite: What to expect

The Skydome will replace the default island sky box with a player’s custom version. It offers property editing features to players by blending gradients of colour for the skyline to create the perfect atmosphere. They can also switch between different skydomes using triggers.

Epic Games will be adding more features to the Skydome. These will include the ability to create smaller Skydome “volumes” within the island, more colours and more control over light sources very soon.
