Dota 2 gets CS:GO-spec Overwatch feature to enable seasoned gamers to identify and take corrective action against miscreant players
Dota 2 recently got itself a new overwatch update from Valve, where experienced players who are well positioned in the game can examine reports of normative activities in matches. Gamers are expected to find this update similar to the CS:GO Overwatch feature.
This overwatch option is essentially a scrutiny mechanism which allows authority players to go through pre-recorded parts of susceptible matches.
The watchdogs at Dota 2 will thereby judge a player involved in any questionable action and can pass on a verdict regarding the viability of the player continuing with the game. They may also press for further evidence in case the provided clippings are not enough.
As this process progresses, seasoned players will be evaluated on the basis of their accuracy consistency. A positive track record will ensure a steady flow of video clips to be scrutinized. Likewise, if a reviewing player has recurring inaccurate reviews, he or she would not be considered for future Overwatch endeavours.
Valve empowers ‘overwatching’ players to ensure that banned gamers cannot reverse judgements passed on them and may also stand to lose their in-game inventory permanently. The ban period typically starts from 30 days going up to a lifetime ban.
To begin with, Valve intends to keep the ambit of players eligible for Overwatch at Dota 2 to a relatively small number. However, gauging the success of this stipulation, more players are likely to be added to the roster.
Valve has tasted relative success with the process in CS:GO earlier and this seems to have prompted the developer to replicate this feature.
Overwatch players will be able to report fraudulent gamers by simply clicking on a red flag button positioned beside the names of players. The scoreboard can also be used to report questionable activities.
To avoid spamming issues and restrict system abuse, each player will be eligible for a limited number of reports per week. For a nuisance player however, multiple reporting is allowed in the same game without using up the allotted slots. Once a report is submitted, they will be passed on to pre-decided ‘good-standing’ members of the community to review and opine.
Reviewers will earn an accuracy score following their verdict. Players who deceptively implicate other players will receive a lower score. They will eventually losing future opportunities to be a part of Overwatch.
