CoD Vanguard to get new Beta content, changes from Champion Hill Alpha

CoD Vanguard will get fresh enhancements to Beta, along with changes carried forward from the Champion Hill Alpha as pointed out by players

The upcoming Vanguard title in Call of Duty is sure to provide CoD fans with an ever-lasting gaming experience. This is certain, because developer Sledgehammer Games left no stone unturned in customizing most facets of the game as per user feedback.

Last week’s Champion Hill mode provided key insights to the devs on what players want in terms of gameplay enhancements. Some of the feedback received during the Alpha weekend was already on its way for the Beta build. While some info will be addressed prior to the Beta, some will arrive post launch.

Fresh Beta content in CoD Vanguard

There is a new mode Patrol, coming up in Vanguard. Based on Hardpoint, this objective-based mode features a scoring zone in near-constant motion.

These modes are in addition to the classic offerings such as Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Search & Destroy.

New Maps in Vanguard Beta

  • Champion Hill
  • Hotel Royal
  • Gavutu
  • Red Star
  • Eagle’s Nest

CoD Vanguard: Changes to Beta from Alpha

Visual Updates

Over the course of Alpha, Sledgehammer had received substantial feedback regarding visibility. The devs have made several noticeable graphical improvements in Beta.

They have also responded to player feedback regarding low visibility when taking damage, and visibility issues with character/map lighting.

Damage Overlay

  • Refined the damage overlay when injured to help maintain visibility.

Lighting

  • Reduced the density of sun fog.
  • Increased the rim light around players to help separate them from the background.
  • Adjusted overall exposure; turned up the lights.

Audio Tuning

The audio team has made improvements to weapon sounds that will be ready in time for Beta. These include:

  • Non-player footstep volume slightly increased.
  • Non-player weapon volume slightly reduced.
  • Announcer volume and callout frequency reduced.
  • Global MP mixing pass to improve informative audio for gameplay

Champion Hill Spawn Tuning

There have been several spawn issues throughout the Champion Hill Alpha. These resulted in players spawning very close to other players. To address this, the design team has adjusted the spawns on Champion Hill.

Also, the devs have tuned spawn locations and adjusted overall spawn logic. This should eliminate any more Angela & Dwight spawn scares in the future.

There was a spawn in Courtyard that forced gamers to have three seconds of awkward eye contact with an opponent. This has been addressed.

Upcoming fixes in CoD Vanguard Beta

Players have reported nameplate visibility issues and aim assist tracking through destructible walls. Sledgehammer might not be able to fix this before Beta, but will surely address them before launch.

Below is the list of issues identified for fixes and why these bugs persist:

  • There is a destructible wall in Champion Hill with a mismatched collision model. Even though it appeared as a solid wall, there was a hole allowing the raycast to pass through and show nameplates.
  • Nameplate visibility works by doing a raycast from one player to another. If there’s something blocking it, the nameplate shouldn’t be visible.
  • The devs know of more nametag and aim assist-related issues and have an ongoing investigation on how to resolve them. Gameplay clips have been a great resource for teams to find and squash these problems.
