Commenting on the development, Arnold Su, Business Head, Asus India, mentioned that the perception of gaming among both gamers and parents is changing. Given favourable policies make their way, Esports may soon be part of grander events like the Olympics in the future.
The hardware brand intends to commence training with CS:GO at the initial quarterly stage. While not only is this game popular, but has been a fan-favourite for over two decades, making it the unanimous choice to begin with. However, the brand is planning to eventually look at other titles as well.
Asus ROG plans to launch a one year programme, comprising four quarterly sessions. Shortlisted players and teams will have to pass through multiple rounds of selection and six selected individuals will become part of a 3-month long session for the first quarter.
Representatives from Asus ROG, its various partners and CS:GO would be supervising the process. Various tailor-made challenges would be curated to test individual skillsets of players and specific competitions.
The programme will include activities ranging from theory and individual skill training to coach mentorship and training on elements like teamwork. Players will also be trained on higher-level concepts and strategies used in competitive gaming.
The training curriculum will be five days a week, twice a day with one session in the morning and one in the evening. Also, the lessons and training will be based on elements picked up from some of the best competitive teams in Southeast Asia and across the world.
As an incentive to take esports prospects forward, Asus ROG will reward the final team of six players with an Ex-Gratia amount of Rs 1,00,000. Also, based on their training period, players will receive a stipend of Rs 15,000 on a monthly basis.
