PUBG Mobile India awaits govt nod for launch

It seems PUBG aficionados in India have been witnessing too many slips between the cup and the lip! And the reason isn’t difficult to fathom. Gamers are yet to get a confirmation regarding the re-launch date from PUBG Corporation about PUBG mobile India, let alone have the game on their hand-held devices as promised by this Diwali this year.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) does not seem to be convinced regarding the security propositions promised by Tencent regarding the re-launch of PUBG Mobile India. To add to the Chinese firm’s woes, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also aired similar views, and wants full-proof legislations in place before giving a nod to the game to commence India operations.

On the operational front, PUBG Mobile India has confirmed that the new launch will be accompanied with a host of new and exciting features. For instance, a green bloodstain effect, found in the game’s Korean version, will make its way to the Indian chapter as well. Providing an enhanced visual appeal will be a virtual simulation training ground, which will replace the original background. Also, addressing the health concerns of under aged gamers, a time limit has been set, thereby limiting their stint spent before a console.

Holding company Krafton has committed an investment of $100 million in India to develop the entire gaming ecosystem in the country. A part of this funding is stipulated to fuel the PUBG Mobile esports league, which is touted to emerge as the largest league-format PUBG Mobile tournament having an exclusive India-spec format.

A few days back, users had found an APK download link in the News section of the website, but unfortunately, it did not work. However, users were directed to a Google Play Store listing of the game, suggesting the PUBG Mobile India has already secured a spot with Google and as soon as government clearance arrives, the app will find its way for all to download.

Initially, when the Ministry of Corporate Affairs had cleared PUBG India Pvt. Ltd to be registered in India, parent company PUBG Corp had committed to set up an office in India, to manage its operations here. However, until the MeitY is convinced about the security concerns being aptly addressed, all these aforementioned features, initiatives and plans do not seem to materialize.
